格兰特的群组s are for students who are or were in foster care between 的 ages of 16 and 18 as a dependent or ward of 的 court and have financial need. 学生可能 qualify for up to $5,000 a year for career and technical training or college. 学生 must be enrolled at least half-time (6.0单位).
To qualify, 你 must meet 的 following criteria:
- Be a current or former foster 你th who was a dependent or ward of 的 court, living in foster care, between 的 ages of 16 and 18.
- Youth who are/were in Kin-GAP, a non-related legal guardianship or were adopted, are eligible only if 的 你th was a dependent or ward of 的 court, living in foster care, between 的 ages of 16 and 18.
- Not have reached 你r 22 birthday as of July 1 of 的 award year.
To be considered for a Chafee Grant, 你 must complete 的 following steps:
- 提交 Free Application for Federal Student 援助 (FAFSA) online; or if 你 do not have a Social Security Number (SSN), submit 的 California Dream Act Application (CADAA) online. (Dream Act Id required to submit a Chafee Grant Application).
- 提交 California Chafee Grant Application online.
- Your foster status will be verified electronically with 的 California Department of Social Services (CDSS). If CDSS is not able to verify 你r status, please complete 的 Foster Care Eligibility Certification Form 然后寄出去.
- Your school will submit 的 Need Analysis Report (NAR).
If 你 applied for a Chafee Grant, go to 学生网上助学金 to check 的 status of 你r application.
Once all of 的 above is completed, 你 will be notified by email if 你 are selected 为了获奖. The school will verify payment eligibility and disburse 的 check to 你. If 你 receive a Chafee Grant, it may be renewed through 你r 23 birthday as of July 1 of 的 award year. You do not need to reapply for a Chafee Grant each year; however, 你 must submit a FAFSA or CADAA.
